Winter Teasing Toronto: Snow, Wind and Slippery Roads on the Way

Winter is officially knocking on Toronto’s door. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning that lake-effect snow is expected to hit parts of the Greater Toronto Area today and tonight, bringing reduced visibility, strong winds, and slippery road conditions.

While snowfall totals aren’t expected to be heavy, brief bursts of intense snow combined with wind gusts reaching up to 70 km/h could make driving especially dangerous in sudden whiteout conditions. Toronto may see up to 2 cm of snow by late afternoon, with another 2 cm possible overnight.

Ontario Provincial Police are urging drivers to stay alert, slow down, and prepare their vehicles before heading out. Clearing snow from windshields, topping up washer fluid, and driving cautiously could make a major difference as conditions change rapidly.

Temperatures will hover around 2°C today, dropping to -2°C overnight, with more flurries expected to stick around through Friday. A short weather break is expected Saturday before rain or snow returns Sunday.

Toronto commuters: winter mode is officially back on.
