Canadian actor and producer Ryan Reynolds is reportedly in negotiations to acquire Club Deportivo La Equidad, a Colombian football team based in Bogotá, in partnership with the investment group Tylis-Porter. The acquisition is expected to close for approximately £15 million ($18 million), with the deal set to be finalized in January 2025.
La Equidad, founded in 1982 by the insurance company La Equidad Seguros, has competed in Colombia’s Primera División, with its most notable achievement being a runner-up finish in the 2008 Apertura Tournament. Despite finishing 13th in the recent season and missing out on international tournaments, the potential acquisition has sparked hopes for revitalization.
Reynolds, already known for his successful ownership of Welsh football club Wrexham AFC, has expanded his sports portfolio in recent years, including a stake in the Alpine Formula 1 team. The acquisition of La Equidad could boost the team’s performance and commercial prospects, while also bringing greater visibility to Colombian football and attracting foreign investment to the league.
