Rosalía has done it again — and this time, she’s made global music history. After three years of work, composing and singing in 13 different languages, and earning near-unanimous critical acclaim, the Spanish superstar’s new album LUXhas officially become the most-streamed album in the world on Spotify.

From November 7 to 13, Spotify’s global charts show LUX at No. 1, surpassing Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, which had dominated since its October 3 release.

A Record-Breaking Release

Upon debut, LUX instantly shattered records, becoming the most-streamed day-one album ever by a Spanish-language artist, racking up over 42 million streams in 24 hours. The acclaim has been just as massive, scoring 98/100 on Metacritic, one of the highest ratings in platform history.

A Multilingual, Multicultural Masterpiece

While rooted in Spanish, LUX is a globe-spanning project. Rosalía explores the stories of saints across cultures — from Olga of Kyiv to Francis and Clare of Assisi — singing in the languages tied to each figure. The album unfolds in four operatic movements, blending:

  • Children’s choirs

  • Fado

  • Waltzes

  • String ensembles

  • Avant-pop production

Thematically, Rosalía journeys through spiritual longing (Sexo, violencia y llantas), heartbreak (Berghain), emotional numbness (La Perla), and even her own imagined funeral (Magnolias).

A New Peak After Motomami

Rosalía was already a global force following Motomami (2022), which logged 5.79 million first-day streams — the second-biggest Spanish-language debut ever, behind Bad Bunny. But LUX pushes her artistry further, cementing her as one of the most visionary musicians of her generation.

With its sweeping ambition and boundary-breaking sound, LUX isn’t just an album — it’s a cultural event, and the whole world is listening.
