River Plate Made Bank After Fernandez Move to Chelsea: Here’s How

BARRIO – River Plate are going to make millions on a player they don’t even own. Chelsea signed Benfica’s 22yr old midfielder Enzo Fernandez for €120 million, but his old club is the real winner.

Fernandez has only been playing European soccer for 6 months, having signed to Benfica from River Plate in Argentina in the summer of 2022. The fee at the time seemed low at €14 million, but looking back it’s even crazier.

His price has risen over 850% after winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina and being named the best young player of the tournament.

Anyway, River Plate were smart. Instead of asking for a higher fee, they reportedly inserted a 25% ‘sell on’ clause. So they took approximately €30 million from this deal.

The biggest sale out of Argentina before the Fernandez deal was Lautaro Martinez for €25 million.

River Plate is super PILAS.
