Netflix has officially acquired the highly anticipated documentary Selena y Los Dinos, a moving tribute to Selena Quintanilla and her family band, directed by Isabel Castro. The film will premiere globally on the streaming platform later this winter.
This acquisition comes after Deadline reported in late February that Netflix was in talks for a $6–$7 million deal—one of the highest prices paid for a documentary following the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The buzz surrounding the film was so intense that Sundance was forced to remove it from its industry portal after fans began leaking clips online.
Selena y Los Dinos tells the story of how the iconic “Queen of Tejano Music” and her family band rose from playing quinceañeras to selling out massive stadiums. The film is brought to life through never-before-seen archival footage from the Quintanilla family’s private collection, providing a rare glimpse into Selena’s life offstage.
The film premiered to critical acclaim at Sundance, where it won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling. It went on to receive Audience Awards at both SXSW and the Miami Film Festival, reinforcing its powerful resonance with viewers.
“We are so excited to finally share that our documentary Selena y Los Dinos is coming to Netflix!” said Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s sister and an executive producer of the film. “Grateful to have a platform that helps bring Selena’s story to fans around the world.”
Director Isabel Castro added, “It is an absolute honor to partner with Netflix, who will bring Selena y Los Dinos to a worldwide audience. Selena’s legacy is so meaningful and continues to inspire millions. This film reveals new dimensions of her journey that have never been seen before.”
Selena Quintanilla was only 23 when her life was tragically cut short in 1995, leaving behind a legacy that still captivates fans nearly three decades later. The documentary offers both longtime followers and new fans a deeper look into the artist’s rise, resilience, and the family bond that fueled her historic success.
Produced by Polygram Entertainment, Amsi Entertainment, and Motto Pictures, the film’s production team includes Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements, J. Daniel Torres, David Blackman, and Simran Singh. Executive producers include Suzette Quintanilla, AB Quintanilla III, and Michele Anthony.
With Selena y Los Dinos, Netflix is poised to bring Selena’s story—and her music—to living rooms around the world, continuing to shine a light on the indelible mark she left on music and culture.
