Miami Advances, Sets Up Messi vs. PSG Thriller

It’s the matchup fans didn’t even know they were dreaming of — Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup Round of 16. Yep, that PSG — Messi’s former team and current European champions.

Miami clawed their way into the knockouts after a wild 2-2 draw with Palmeiras, where goals from Tadeo Allende and Luis Suárez had them cruising before the Brazilian side hit back late to top the group. That result means Miami finishes second in Group A, landing them right in PSG’s path — and what a path that’ll be.

PSG, meanwhile, comfortably handled the Seattle Sounders with a 2-0 win, earning their spot at the top of Group B and setting the stage for what feels like a reunion tour. Messi, Suárez, Busquets, Alba, and coach Javier Mascherano — all Barca legends — will now line up against Luis Enrique, the man who led them to a treble in 2015.

“This is football,” Jordi Alba said with a grin, acknowledging the familiar faces. “We’ll compete, try to beat them, and why can’t we do it?”

Mascherano summed it up best: “It’s a historic night for MLS.”

No matter how it plays out, it’s going to be a match packed with nostalgia, elite talent, and serious Club World Cup stakes.
