Messi Faces Lawsuit After Skipping Argentina Friendly in Miami

Lionel Messi is facing a lawsuit in Miami after a promoter claimed the global superstar violated a $7 million agreement tied to Argentina’s exhibition matches last year.

Miami-based Vid Music Group has filed a suit against Messi and the Argentine Football Association, alleging fraud and breach of contract. According to the complaint, the promoter secured exclusive rights to organize and promote friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico, with the expectation that Messi would play at least 30 minutes in each match unless injured.

The issue centers around an October 2025 match against Venezuela at Hard Rock Stadium, where Messi did not play and instead watched from a suite. One day later, he appeared for Inter Miami CF, scoring twice in a key MLS match—raising questions from the promoter about his availability.

Messi did later feature in Argentina’s match against Puerto Rico, but organizers say the damage was already done. The second game was moved from Chicago to Florida due to low ticket sales, further impacting revenue.

Vid Music Group claims it lost millions as a result, though no specific damages have been publicly detailed.

Neither Messi nor the AFA has responded to the lawsuit so far.

Beyond the legal battle, the case highlights a growing reality in modern football: when global stars like Messi are involved, expectations—and financial stakes—are massive.
