Mail’s Moving Again! Canada Post Ends Nationwide Strike — Sort Of

Good news for Canadians waiting on mail and packages: Canada Post is getting back to work — kind of.

After days of a full-on nationwide strike, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) announced it’s shifting gears to rotating strikes starting Saturday at 6 a.m. (local time). That means mail delivery will start moving again, but not everything will be back to normal.

Canada Post says it’s ready to “welcome back employees” and is planning a “safe and orderly restart” of national operations. Still, the Crown corporation warned that service guarantees are suspended while the rotating strikes continue — so delays are likely.

In a statement, CUPW said they didn’t make the decision lightly: “Postal workers would much rather have new collective agreements and be delivering mail instead of taking strike action.”

The shift comes after union leaders met with the federal minister responsible for Canada Post earlier this week. For now, letters and parcels will start making their way through the system again — just don’t expect lightning-fast delivery quite yet.
