Luis Suárez, Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer with 69 goals, will play his final international match on Friday in a FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier against Paraguay. The 37-year-old striker, who has had a legendary career with clubs like Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid, announced his retirement from international football during an emotional press conference. Suárez expressed gratitude to the fans and reflected on his career, including leading Uruguay to victory in the 2011 Copa América. Although retiring from the national team, Suárez remains active in club football, currently excelling with Inter Miami, where he’s playing a key role, especially in the absence of Lionel Messi. His contract with the club runs through the 2024 MLS season, and he has no immediate plans to retire from professional football.
