Lottery fever is officially back across Canada. The Lotto Max jackpot has climbed to its maximum $80 million after no one matched all the winning numbers in the Tuesday, Dec. 16 draw.
But that’s not even the full story.
Thanks to the rollover, total top-end prizing for Friday’s Dec. 19 draw now sits at an eye-popping $103 million, including an estimated 23 Maxmillions prizes worth $1 million each.
OLG spokesperson Tony Bitonti says jackpots like this always get people buzzing — especially here in Ontario.
“When it gets this high, people really get excited,” he said, adding that Ontario is still waiting to land its first $80 million win after B.C. claimed the inaugural one.
While the prize pool is massive, it’s not quite record-breaking. Previous draws have reached even higher totals thanks to larger numbers of Maxmillions prizes. Still, Bitonti says the momentum is building — and Ontario could be next.
Lotto Max tickets cost $5 per play and can be purchased online at OLG.ca or at authorized retailers until 10:30 p.m. on draw night. Draws happen every Tuesday and Friday.
Since launching in 2009, Ontario players have won more than $9.5 billion through Lotto Max, including 117 jackpot wins and 953 Maxmillions prizes.
In other words: if you’ve been waiting for a sign to check your numbers — this might be it. 🎟️💰
