Latina Designer, Stephanie Leal, Brings Houston to the FIFA World Cup Stage

The FIFA World Cup is coming to Houston—but this time, a Latina creative is helping define how the city shows up to the world.

Houston-based designer Stephanie Leal is the artist behind the official Houston Host City poster for the FIFA World Cup 2026, bringing a powerful mix of culture, identity, and hometown pride to one of the biggest global stages.

And her story matters just as much as the design.

Born in Monterrey and raised in Houston, Leal represents the cross-border identity that defines so many in the Latin community. Growing up between cultures—and with a deep love for fútbol—she infused that lived experience into every detail of her work.

At the center of her “Dare to Dream” poster is an astronaut named Orion, a nod to Houston’s space legacy. But look closer, and it goes deeper: the World Cup trophy reflected in the visor, the Houston skyline, a cowboy hat, and even the iconic “H” hand sign—all layered with intention.

Nothing is random.

Leal spent weeks researching and refining the piece, making sure it authentically represented both the city and the global energy of the tournament. “The culture, diversity, and love for fútbol… inspire so much of my work,” she shared—highlighting how her Mexican roots and Houston upbringing shaped the final vision.

The design is now part of FIFA’s official merchandise collection, featuring bold blue-and-gold pieces ranging from tees to hoodies and accessories as Houston prepares to host seven World Cup matches.

But for Leal, this is bigger than merch.

It’s about representation.

From Monterrey to Houston to the world stage, her work reflects a generation of Latinos shaping global culture—not just participating in it.

And when fans wear that design in 2026, they won’t just be repping a city.

They’ll be wearing a story.
