Los Angeles FC opened the MLS season in statement fashion Saturday night, defeating Inter Miami CF 3–0 in front of 75,673 fans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum — the largest opening-day crowd in league history and the second-largest standalone regular-season crowd ever.
David Martínez struck first in the 38th minute, finishing a fluid counterattack assisted by Son Heung-Min, who has helped transform LAFC since joining last summer. Denis Bouanga doubled the lead in the second half and later assisted substitute Nathan Ordaz for the third goal, sealing a dominant performance.
Despite 63 percent possession and the return of Lionel Messi to the lineup after a lengthy absence, Miami struggled to convert control into chances. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and LAFC’s defense kept Messi and the Herons scoreless, while the hosts thrived in transition and finished with a 6–3 edge in shots on target.
New Footage shows Lionel Messi trying to confront the referee after full-time vs LAFC, with Luis Suárez pulling him back to stop him entering the officials’ dressing room.
The match not only delivered fireworks on the pitch but also marked the highest-attended soccer game globally on the day — setting the tone for a blockbuster MLS season.
