Karol G’s latest album, Tropicoqueta, released on June 20, is more than just a musical project — it’s a passionate tribute to Latin culture in all its diversity, color, and rhythm. The spark for the album came during her Mañana Será Bonito world tour, while performing in Europe. Surrounded by Latin fans who had traveled long distances to see her, Karol experienced an epiphany: her next chapter wouldn’t be about crossing over into English but about celebrating everything that makes Latinos feel at home.
With Tropicoqueta, she delivers exactly that — a genre-blending journey across Latin America, steeped in the sounds of vallenato, cumbia villera, mambo, dembow, regional Mexican music, and more. Co-produced with Edgar Barrera, Pharrell Williams, Tainy, Ovy on the Drums, and others, the album features live instrumentation and heartfelt storytelling.
Karol G draws inspiration from icons like Rocío Dúrcal, La India, Amanda Miguel, and Selena, infusing the album with nostalgic power and modern flair. She highlights her identity not just as Colombian, but as proudly pan-Latin: “I feel super Latina, like I’m from everywhere.”
She also breaks down five standout tracks:
“Ivonny Bonita”: Born from a moment of personal healing and a mistaken lyric, the song channels an alter ego that helped Karol reclaim her strength.
“Latina Foreva”: A fiery anthem celebrating Latina identity, style, and joy — even filmed in a snow-covered mountain to show how Latinas “bring the heat” anywhere.
“Coleccionando Heridas” (with Marco Antonio Solís): A tearjerker for romantics, the song honors timeless love and emotional vulnerability.
“Ese Hombre es Malo”: Featuring 57 musicians, this grand, mariachi-symphony fusion draws inspiration from Juan Gabriel and Rocío Dúrcal, telling the tale of a cheating husband caught by his clever wife.
“Tropicoqueta”: A custom-made track for la hora loca, complete with dance instructions — embodying joy, movement, and Colombian party spirit.
With Tropicoqueta, Karol G brings Latin America to the global stage not by chasing trends, but by digging deeper into her heritage — and inviting the world to dance along.
