The 2026 World Cup groups are officially set, and while Canada now knows its Group B opponents — Qatar, Switzerland and the winner of the European playoff (Italy, Northern Ireland, Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina) — Toronto fans are already asking the big question: Who’s coming to BMO Field?

Toronto, renamed Toronto Stadium for the tournament, will host six matches, with FIFA confirming the venue-by-venue schedule this Saturday. Here’s a breakdown of which nations could take the pitch in the city.

June 12 — Canada’s Opener

Canada will kick off its World Cup campaign in Toronto on June 12, facing the winner of Playoff Path A. That spot will be claimed in March by Italy, Northern Ireland, Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Canada’s remaining two group matches shift to Vancouver on June 18 and 24.

June 17 — Group L Arrives

Toronto’s second match features teams from Group L: England, Croatia, Ghana and Panama.
Fans could see England — ranked No. 4 in the world — or 2022 bronze medalists Croatia.

June 20 — Germany & Company

Next up is a Group E showdown. This group includes:

  • Germany — 2014 World Cup champions

  • Curaçao

  • Côte d’Ivoire

  • Ecuador

June 23 — More Group L Action

Another match from Group L returns to Toronto.

June 26 — France, Haaland & More

Toronto’s final group-stage match will feature two teams from Group I, which includes:

  • France — world No. 3 and two-time champions

  • Norway, led by Erling Haaland

  • Senegal (ranked 19th)

  • Plus the playoff winner among Bolivia, Suriname or Iraq

July 2 — Knockout Stage Comes to Toronto

The city’s final match will be a Round of 32 game featuring:

  • Runner-up of Group K (Portugal, Uzbekistan, Colombia or a playoff winner)
    vs.

  • Runner-up of Group L (England, Croatia, Ghana or Panama)
