Gunshots, a Lamborghini, and a Stolen Honda: A Wild Morning in Vaughan

It was just after 4 a.m. in Vaughan when a quiet neighborhood near Pine Valley Drive and Teston Road turned into something out of an action movie. The reason? A group of car thieves allegedly rolled up to steal a white Lamborghini from a driveway — but the homeowner had other plans.

Shots Fired During Attempted Theft

According to York Regional Police, the homeowner — a 35-year-old man — came outside while the theft was happening and opened fire. Yes, actual gunshots in the middle of a suburban street. Police were already on the line with the resident when the shots rang out in the background.

By the time officers arrived, four suspects were arrested on the scene — three men in their 20s and a 16-year-old boy. They’d apparently shown up in a stolen black Honda, which later got towed away with its rear window shattered and police tape on the doors.

The suspects — from Brampton, Toronto, Mississauga, and Pickering — now face a long list of charges, including attempted vehicle theft, break-and-enter, and possession of stolen property. One of them was also charged for breaching probation. And police say a fifth suspect is still on the run.

But That’s Not All…

The homeowner also faces charges — for firing the weapon. He’s now looking at multiple offenses: discharging a firearm, unsafe storage, and unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon.

York Regional Police made it clear: even if you’re protecting your property, firing a gun in a residential area is extremely dangerous. “You could hit a neighbor, a family member, or even a responding officer,” they said.

“This Isn’t the First Time”

According to neighbors, this isn’t the first time the house has drawn police attention. Judian Holness, who lives nearby, said she’s worried about safety and wondered why someone would leave a flashy car like a Lamborghini parked out in the open overnight. “Just as a neighborhood, we have to take better precautions,” she said.

Another neighbor, Kamiya, said she was sleeping with the windows open when she heard a bang — thinking it was her curtains. “I’m scared sometimes,” she admitted, especially with two young daughters at home. She said they don’t even know who lives in the house — just that it’s a rental and tenants seem to come and go.

A Bigger Conversation About Crime and Bail

York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween used the incident to highlight growing concerns about repeat offendersbeing released on bail. “To ensure public safety and protect our officers, we need a bail system that works,” he said.

And while the speed and response of police helped get four people into custody, it’s clear that residents are feeling shaken — and asking bigger questions about safety, surveillance, and community trust.
