El Salvador’s World Cup dream is still alive — and thanks to Guns N’ Roses, it will continue on the country’s biggest stage.

The men’s national team, La Selecta, will now play its crucial October World Cup qualifiers at the iconic Estadio Cuscatlán after the legendary rock band agreed to move its October 4 concert to another venue. Organizers confirmed that Axl Rose and company will instead perform at Estadio Nacional Jorge “El Mágico” González, freeing up the Cuscatlán for football.

The move comes after officials raised concerns that a massive concert so close to matchdays would leave the Cuscatlán pitch in poor condition. With El Salvador set to host Panama on October 10 and Guatemala on October 14, every detail matters in its bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

El Salvador hasn’t reached a World Cup since Spain 1982, but the expanded 48-team format offers new hope. The top finisher in their CONCACAF qualifying group earns a direct ticket. After two games, Suriname leads with six points, while El Salvador sits second with three. Panama and Guatemala trail behind.

Yamil Bukele, president of El Salvador’s sports institute (INDES), praised the compromise:

“We appreciate the willingness of Guns N’ Roses and the organizing team to make this change so that fans of both soccer and music can enjoy world-class events.”

For El Salvador fans, the message is clear: don’t cry. Thanks to rock legends showing some flexibility, La Selecta will get to fight for history on home turf at the Cuscatlán.
