Garifuna musician and former Honduran congressman Aurelio Martínez died in a plane crash off the coast of Honduras, which killed at least 13 people. The Lanhsa Airlines flight crashed into the sea while taking off from Roatán, heading to La Ceiba. Five people were rescued. Martínez, a renowned global ambassador for Garifuna music, was remembered as a cultural icon who elevated his community’s heritage. His passing deeply impacted the Garifuna people, with tributes highlighting his humility, vision, and lasting legacy. Honduran authorities cited mechanical failure as the likely cause of the crash.
