Ecuador’s national team will head north this fall for a marquee international friendly against Canada at BMO Field in Toronto on November 13, 2025.
Already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ecuador comes into the match ranked No. 25 in the world and sitting second in the competitive CONMEBOL qualifying standings with a record of 7-2-7. Their spot at the tournament was secured in June with a crucial 1-1 draw against Peru, sealing one of South America’s six automatic berths.
The match will mark Ecuador’s second-ever meeting with Canada. The first clash took place in Toronto back in June 2011 and ended in a 2-2 draw after Canada’s Tosaint Ricketts scored a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time.
For Ecuador, the Toronto fixture is another chance to sharpen their form against rising opposition ahead of 2026. Canada, currently enjoying their highest-ever FIFA ranking at No. 28, continues to build under new coach Jesse Marsch and will be eager to test themselves against South American competition.
“Playing at home means so much to this group. It’s an opportunity to feel the nation rally behind us,” Marsch said of the Toronto match.
The Ecuador clash is part of a packed lead-up for Canada, who will also face Romania, Wales, Australia, and Colombia in the coming months. A second November friendly is expected to be announced soon.
The game is being co-produced by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), SPORTFIVE, and Lions Sports Media, who recently partnered on the Canadian Shield Tournament featuring Ivory Coast, New Zealand, and Ukraine.
With Ecuador looking to fine-tune their squad ahead of the World Cup and Canada pushing to maintain their global rise, Toronto fans can expect a competitive international showcase when La Tri take the pitch at BMO Field.
