Don Melchor 2021 of Chile is Wine Spectator’s “Wine of The Year”

The Cabernet Sauvignon Puente Alto Vineyard 2021 from Viña Don Melchor has been named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator’s Top 100, the world’s most influential wine ranking. This Chilean wine takes the crown as the successor to Argiano’s Brunello di Montalcino 2018, which won in 2023.

The top 10 features a mix of international wines:

  • Italy: Antinori’s Tignanello 2021 (No. 3) and G.D. Vajra’s Barolo Albe 2020 (No. 9).
  • USA: Beaulieu Vineyard’s 2021 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (No. 2), Faust’s 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (No. 4), Chimney Rock’s 2021 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (No. 5), and Williams Selyem’s Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Eastside Road Neighbors 2022 (No. 8).
  • France: Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau 2020 (No. 7).
  • Oregon: Drouhin Oregon Roserock’s Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills 2022 (No. 6).
  • California: Ramey’s Chardonnay Russian River Valley 2022 (No. 10).
