Okay, so the qualifying matches made us sweat and, as excited as we are to see our favourite team play and possibly win the world cup, this partnership represents greater opportunity for the crypto community and world football fans. It’s also very fitting as we’ve seen football stars like Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luis Suarez show a strong interest in the cryptocurrency space.

FIFA and blockchain technology company Algorand teamed up for a sponsorship and partnership deal. The partnership was announced by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Algorand founder Silvio Micali in Los Angeles, USA.

According to fifa.com, during the announcement, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Algorand. The collaboration is a clear indication of FIFA’s commitment to continually seeking innovative channels for sustainable revenue growth for further reinvestment back into football ensuring transparency to our stakeholders and world-wide football fans – a key element of our Vision to make football truly global. I look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Algorand.”

Not only is the presence of crypto growing in the sports world, but many big names, businesses and brands are plugging in too. Crypto.com even became the exclusive crypto trading exchange to sponsor the World Cup in March 2022 and fans are screaming for NFTs to have their own presence. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even be watching future World Cup matches in the Metaverse.
