BARRIO (Fresh Plaza) – “Colombia has become the country with the third-largest Hass avocado production and harvested area,” stated Carlos SepĂșlveda, manager of Trade Marketing of Solutions for Agriculture at BASF. This achievement is very important for Colombian agriculture. It is the result of a continuous work process, based on innovative methods and environmentally friendly solutions that have allowed to expand consumer interest in avocado.”

In fact, avocado is one of the non-traditional agro-export products with the greatest impact in Colombia. According to data up to September 2022 published by the National Foreign Trade Association (Analdex), avocado exports achieved a record turnover of $146.4 million in 2020, the year of the pandemic. In 2021 they increased to $203.7 million and, despite having decreased to $178.2 million in 2022, the sector expects a 25% increase in revenue this year.

Colombia exports its avocado to countries such as the Netherlands (with a nearly 50% share), the United States (21%), the United Kingdom (10%), Spain (9%), and Belgium (5%).
