BARRIO (CNTraveler) – The World’s 50 Best Restaurants named a brand new winner in Valencia this week. The annual awards ceremony, which celebrates all of the world’s finest eateries, took place on Tuesday, June 20—and Central in Lima, Peru was named as the winner. The list is decided by a panel of experts, and there are a few rules: those on the panel can’t vote for any restaurant they have an economic interest in, and they must have eaten at restaurants that win their votes in the previous 19 months.

It’s also important to note that a restaurant which has previously bagged the top spot cannot win for a second time. Instead, previous winners move onto the ‘Best of the Best’ list, which includes Noma, Osteria Francescana, and Mirazur. This means that the 2022 winner, Geranium, took its place on the ‘Best of the Best’ list–making way for Central to claim the top spot.
