Canada’s men’s national soccer team secured a 2-1 victory over Panama in their first home match in over 11 months. While the performance was not flawless, the game served as an important learning experience for Jesse Marsch’s side. The match featured a mix of first-choice starters and lesser-experienced players, allowing the team to experiment with new faces and tactics.

Panama, known for their tough, physical style, made the game challenging, and the poor quality of the pitch at Toronto FC’s BMO Field also worked against Canada. However, despite these obstacles, Canada managed to come out on top, showing resilience and growth.

Marsch praised his team’s mentality, especially after conceding the first goal. “It would have been easy for us to make excuses… but our mentality was strong,” Marsch said postgame. He highlighted how the team improved after going behind, showing they could rise to the challenge even when the game became difficult.

This victory reflects Canada’s progression as they continue to build a competitive squad while integrating new players.
