Bolivia has declared a state of emergency as severe flooding devastates the country, affecting around 380,000 families. President Luis Arce announced the measure to speed up rescue operations and the procurement of emergency equipment.
The rainy season, which lasts from November to April, has become increasingly dangerous. Last year, floods claimed 55 lives, and experts warn that climate change is worsening Bolivia’s water crisis by intensifying droughts and floods.
Adding to the crisis, Bolivia is also grappling with a crippling fuel shortage and economic struggles that have persisted since 2023.
