If you’re daydreaming about starting a new life abroad, TikTok might actually give you a glimpse into what that could look like — and now we’ve got data to back up where people are most curious about moving. According to research by money transfer site Remitly, which looked at how many TikTok hashtags are associated with living in or moving to a country, Canada is officially the most talked-about expat destination on the app.

With 16,523 related hashtags, Canada easily tops the list — and it kind of makes sense. The country offers everything from dynamic, multicultural cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal to postcard-worthy national parks filled with lakes, forests, and towering mountains. Plus, it’s consistently ranked as one of the happiest and safest countries to live in, making it a magnet for people considering a big move.

Coming in second is Spain, with 9,915 hashtags. The allure? That Mediterranean lifestyle — think sun-soaked beaches, siestas, incredible food, and a relatively affordable cost of living (at least compared to some other Western countries). Spain is one of three European countries in the top ten, alongside France and Portugal.

Australia takes the third spot with 9,377 hashtags. With its laid-back lifestyle, high quality of life, and enviable weather, it’s easy to see the appeal — not to mention cities like Sydney and Melbourne that often rank among the best places to live globally.

The rest of the top 10 is a mix of European and Asian destinations, along with a few North American contenders. These rankings are based purely on TikTok activity — not immigration stats or job markets — but they do offer a snapshot of where people are dreaming about starting over.

So, if you’re plotting an international move (or just fantasizing about it while doom-scrolling), these are the places that are catching people’s attention.
