The rise of reggaeton is being celebrated in a new docu-series, Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World, featuring some of the genre’s biggest stars. Artists like Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, and Natti Natasha reflect on their parents’ early reactions to reggaeton music, a genre often associated with provocative lyrics and a rebellious spirit.

Rauw Alejandro recalls an amusing memory of being reprimanded by his mother for singing along to explicit reggaeton lyrics as a child. His mom’s response? A smack and a stern warning not to bring that kind of music into the house. Similarly, Karol G shares that her father was initially upset by the reggaeton songs she listened to when she was starting out in the industry. However, over time, he became her biggest fan, supporting her through her meteoric rise, including winning prestigious awards like Album of the Year at the Latin Grammys.

Directed by Omar Acosta and executive produced by Daddy Yankee, the four-part series explores reggaeton’s origins and impact, featuring insights from pioneers like Ivy Queen and Vico C, as well as today’s top superstars like Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Feid, and Natti Natasha. The docu-series revisits the genre’s evolution from its underground roots to its global dominance, offering a comprehensive look at the movement that forever changed the sound of music.
