Bad Bunny’s latest album, “DEBÍ TIRAR MÁS FOTOS” (DtMF), released on January 5, is described as his “most Puerto Rican” project yet and is currently Billboard’s top streaming album. Beyond music, Bad Bunny continues to champion Puerto Rican culture and politics. He announced his first residency in Puerto Rico titled “No me quiero ir de aquí” (“I do not want to leave here”), with initial ticket sales limited to island residents and sold in person.

The album addresses themes of Puerto Rican identity, pride, and the island’s struggle for sovereignty amidst its colonial history under Spain and the U.S. Bad Bunny collaborated with historian Jorell Meléndez-Badillo to include educational elements, with each of the 17 songs providing mini-history lessons. Tracks like “Nueva Yol” and “La Mudanza” celebrate the resilience and unity of Puerto Ricans, whether on the island or in the diaspora.

Bad Bunny has also used his platform to criticize issues such as displacement, gentrification, and government corruption. He has been vocal in his opposition to pro-statehood politician Jenniffer González-Colón, who he accuses of prioritizing U.S. interests over Puerto Rico’s needs. While González-Colón aligns herself with Trump-era policies, Bad Bunny has emerged as a cultural and political leader, resonating with Puerto Ricans by prioritizing their struggles and aspirations for autonomy.
