Bad Bunny Earns First-Ever Emmy Nomination for Historic Super Bowl Halftime Show

Bad Bunny has added another major milestone to his career, earning his first-ever Emmy nomination for his ambitious 2026 Super Bowl LX Halftime Show.

The Puerto Rican superstar is nominated in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category following a performance that became one of the most talked-about halftime shows in recent memory. The production itself earned an impressive nine Emmy nominations across categories including choreography, directing, production design, lighting, music direction, camerawork and sound mixing.

The recognition comes after the largely Spanish-language performance sparked political controversy. U.S. President Donald Trump publicly criticized the show, claiming that viewers could not understand Bad Bunny — comments that drew backlash from fans and supporters of Latino representation.

Now, the Television Academy has delivered a very different verdict.

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is recognized for his involvement in the live special, including his work behind the scenes as a supervising producer.

He faces major competition in the Outstanding Variety Special category, including the Golden Globes, Grammy Awards, Oscars and Tony Awards.

The nomination marks yet another historic achievement for an artist who continues to break barriers for Spanish-language music and Latino culture on the global stage.

Emmy voting closes August 26, with the Primetime Emmy Awards set for September 14.
