This year’s Met Gala, a prestigious event in the New York social scene, will feature co-hosts Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, and Chris Hemsworth, alongside Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour. Scheduled for May 6, the gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art marks the opening of the annual exhibit at the Met’s Costume Institute, with attendees showcasing extravagant outfits. The event’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, emphasizing the transient nature of beauty. This theme aligns with the exhibit “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” focused on delicate pieces from the Costume Institute’s collection related to nature. The exhibit will be open to the public from May 10 to September 2. The Met Gala serves as a crucial fundraiser for the Costume Institute’s work, including exhibitions and acquisitions. Originating in 1948, the gala was initially exclusive to New York’s elite but evolved under Wintour’s influence into a star-studded fashion showcase. The event has also become a social media sensation, with both the gala and exhibit sponsored by TikTok.
