Behind this iconic team-up is none other than Edgar Barrera, the 26-time GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winner known as the architect of hit collaborations in Latin music. As the writer and producer of “Me Retiro,” Barrera orchestrated this dream moment where past and present collide.
“It’s surreal. Santana wanted to collaborate, and we were speechless,” said Grupo Frontera. “Being in the same room with him, watching him work… we learned so much.”
Fans got their first taste of the single during a surprise performance at Santana’s House of Blues residency in Las Vegason May 22nd. The performance marked not only the live debut of “Me Retiro,” but also a symbolic moment—a legendary rock guitarist sharing the stage with a new generation of regional Mexican trailblazers.
And Santana is far from done.
“It feels beautiful to share with them… This is just the beginning,” he said. “We want a South American tour, a Latino Woodstock.”
For Grupo Frontera, the collaboration wasn’t just about the music—it was a masterclass in humility and professionalism.
“He arrived, greeted us, and got straight to work. That’s something we need to learn from,” they said.
