Puerto Rican superstar Myke Towers is bringing back a familiar sound from reggaeton’s golden era with his latest single, “Te Imagino,” a nostalgic tribute to fellow Puerto Rican artist De La Ghetto.

Released October 21, the track combines old-school reggaeton influences with modern production, giving longtime fans something familiar while introducing a classic sound to a new generation.

And for anyone who grew up listening to reggaeton in the late 2000s, the opening seconds might sound very familiar.

A Tribute to De La Ghetto’s “Tú Te Imaginas”

The biggest surprise comes at the beginning of the song, where Myke Towers incorporates a modified vocal sample from De La Ghetto’s 2008 hit “Tú Te Imaginas.”

The original track, featured on De La Ghetto’s debut album Masacre Musical, became a memorable part of the romantic reggaeton era, when artists were blending R&B melodies with Latin urban rhythms.

Nearly two decades later, Towers revisits that sound, adding his own signature flow and contemporary production.

Rather than simply recreating the original, he uses the recognizable sample as inspiration for something new.

Old-School Reggaeton Meets an ’80s-Inspired Sound

Musically, “Te Imagino” takes a slightly different direction from the harder trap and reggaeton records that helped establish Myke Towers as an international star.

The production features warm synthesizers, smooth urban rhythms and influences from 1980s music.

Lyrically, the song explores the excitement of meeting someone and experiencing an immediate connection. From late-night drives to private romantic encounters, Towers builds a story around attraction, chemistry and unforgettable moments.

The result is a laid-back, melodic track that feels equally suited for a late-night drive or a reggaeton playlist.

Myke Towers Continues His Strong Run in 2026

The release arrives during another busy period for the Puerto Rican artist.

Towers recently released “Carita Feliz,” accompanied by a cinematic short film featuring Spanish actress Clara Galle.

He also earned a nomination at the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards for Latin Rhythm Song of the Year with “5 Estrellas (W Sound 23),” alongside W Sound and producer Ovy On The Drums.

With numerous international hits and an increasingly diverse catalogue, Towers continues to demonstrate his ability to move between Latin trap, reggaeton and more melodic sounds.

Keeping Reggaeton’s History Alive

One of the most interesting things about “Te Imagino” is how it connects two generations of Latin urban music.

De La Ghetto helped shape the romantic, R&B-influenced reggaeton sound of the 2000s, while Myke Towers represents a generation that has taken the genre to an even larger international audience.

By revisiting “Tú Te Imaginas,” Towers is acknowledging the artists and music that helped build today’s global reggaeton movement.

For longtime fans, it’s a welcome dose of nostalgia. For younger listeners, it might be their introduction to one of De La Ghetto’s most recognizable records.

“Te Imagino” is now available on major streaming platforms, with an official music video accompanying the release.

What do you think? Does Myke Towers do justice to De La Ghetto’s classic, or is the original still untouchable?
