Puerto Rican reggaeton superstar Anuel AA is preparing a major musical comeback, and one of his upcoming projects is taking fans in an unexpected direction: Mexican corridos.
During Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami on October 20, Anuel AA revealed plans to release two albums, including his long-awaited Real Hasta La Muerte 2 and a surprise project dedicated entirely to Mexican corridos.
The announcement caught fans by surprise, especially considering Anuel has built his career around Latin trap and reggaeton. Now, the Puerto Rican artist is embracing one of the fastest-growing sounds in Latin music.
Anuel AA Is Returning to His Roots With Real Hasta La Muerte 2
The first project, Real Hasta La Muerte 2, will serve as the sequel to his influential 2018 debut album, which helped establish Anuel AA as one of Latin trap’s biggest stars.
The upcoming release is expected to feature a combination of hard-hitting trap, reggaeton and more commercial sounds.
Anuel explained that the project represents a return to the music that originally connected him with millions of fans.
The album will also mark his first full-length studio release in approximately four years, following Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren 2 in 2022.
While November is the anticipated release window, an official date has not yet been confirmed.
A Surprise Album Dedicated Entirely to Mexican Corridos
Perhaps the biggest revelation was Anuel’s announcement that he is also preparing an album focused exclusively on corridos.
The Puerto Rican artist described the project as a gift to Mexico, a country where he has spent considerable time and developed a growing appreciation for regional Mexican music.
Anuel revealed that he has become a major fan of artists including Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida, Tito Double P and Netón Vega.
He even admitted that he now spends more time listening to corridos than reggaeton or trap.
For Anuel, the connection between Puerto Rican trap and Mexican corridos goes beyond musical styles. Both genres frequently tell stories about street life, struggles, loyalty and personal experiences.
That connection inspired him to explore a completely different sound while remaining connected to the themes that have defined his career.
Fuerza Regida Collaboration in the Works
Anuel also revealed that he is working with Jesús Ortiz Paz, better known as JOP, the frontman of Fuerza Regida.
The two artists are expected to collaborate on multiple songs for the corridos project.
Another track previewed during Billboard Latin Music Week was Los Veo, produced by Mexican producer Alex Torres.
The collaboration represents another example of the growing relationship between Puerto Rican urban music and regional Mexican artists.
In recent years, Mexican music has expanded its international influence, with artists such as Peso Pluma and Fuerza Regida reaching audiences traditionally dominated by reggaeton.
Anuel’s decision to record an entire corridos album could introduce the genre to even more urban music fans worldwide.
Could Both Albums Arrive on the Same Day?
Anuel suggested that both albums could arrive simultaneously, although he stopped short of confirming the plan.
His birthday, November 26, appears to be an important date in the rollout.
The artist confirmed that he expects to be celebrating the new music around his birthday, but fans will have to wait for an official announcement regarding the exact release schedule.
If both projects arrive together, listeners could experience two very different sides of Anuel AA: the familiar Puerto Rican trap superstar and an artist exploring the traditions and storytelling of Mexican corridos.
A New Chapter for Latin Music
Anuel’s announcement reflects a broader transformation happening across the Latin music industry.
Reggaeton and Latin trap remain global forces, but regional Mexican music has developed an enormous international audience.
The boundaries between genres are becoming increasingly blurred as artists experiment with new sounds and collaborate across countries.
For Anuel AA, releasing a corridos album could be one of the most ambitious musical decisions of his career.
And for fans across Latin America, Canada and beyond, the possibility of two completely different Anuel AA albums arriving before the end of 2026 gives them plenty to look forward to.
Would you rather hear Anuel AA return to his original trap sound, or are you excited to hear him experiment with Mexican corridos?
