Toronto’s outdoor pool season is coming to an end — but before the pools close, the city is giving them to the dogs.

On Sunday, September 20, several outdoor pools across Toronto will host special dog-only swims from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., giving pups the chance to jump in, cool off and basically take over the pool for two hours.

The swims coincide with the final day of Toronto’s extended outdoor pool season, with select pools remaining open through September 20.

Where Can Your Dog Swim?

The September 20 dog swims are scheduled at:

• Fairbank Memorial Park Community Recreation Centre — 2213 Dufferin St.
• Goulding Community Recreation Centre — 45 Goulding Ave.
• Heron Park Community Centre Pool — 292 Manse Rd.
• Kiwanis Outdoor Pool — 375 Cedarvale Ave.
• McGregor Park Community Centre Pool — 2231 Lawrence Ave. E.
• Riverdale Park East Pool — 550 Broadview Ave.
• Sunnyside Gus Ryder Outdoor Pool — 1755 Lake Shore Blvd. W.

All are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on September 20.

There Are a Few Rules

This pool party is strictly for the pups — humans aren’t allowed to swim with them.

Dogs must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older, and owners need to bring proof of their dog’s rabies vaccination. One adult can bring a maximum of two dogs, and owners are responsible for supervising their pets from the pool deck. Dogs showing aggressive behaviour will be asked to leave.

And perhaps most importantly: prepare to get splashed anyway.

The event gives Toronto dog owners one final excuse to enjoy summer before the pools close and fall officially takes over.

So if your dog loves the water, mark September 20 on the calendar.
