Spanish music legend Julio Iglesias is facing renewed legal action after two former employees filed a new complaint accusing the singer of sexual abuse and forced labour.

The two women, identified publicly under the pseudonyms Rebeca and Laura, previously worked as a domestic employee and physiotherapist at Iglesias’ properties in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. They allege the abuse took place while working for him in 2021.

A Second Attempt to Have the Case Investigated

The women originally brought their allegations before Spanish prosecutors earlier this year. That complaint was shelved in January after prosecutors concluded that Spanish courts did not have jurisdiction because the alleged events occurred in the Caribbean.

Now, the women have taken a different legal route, filing a complaint directly with a Spanish court and asking a judge to determine whether a formal investigation should be opened.

Their lawyers argue that Spanish law allows certain crimes allegedly committed abroad by Spanish citizens to be investigated in Spain when the necessary legal conditions are met.

Iglesias Denies the Allegations

Iglesias, 82, has strongly denied the accusations, previously calling them “absolutely false” and saying he has never abused, coerced or disrespected a woman.

No court has ruled on the truth of the allegations, and the new filing does not mean Iglesias has been found guilty or that the case will necessarily proceed to trial.

The latest complaint now puts the allegations back before Spain’s justice system and could determine whether one of the biggest names in Latin music faces a formal judicial investigation.

Iglesias remains one of the most successful Spanish-language artists of all time, with more than 300 million records sold worldwide.
