A major family dispute has erupted over the legacy of Selena Quintanilla.

Selena’s brother A.B. Quintanilla has confirmed that he is pursuing legal action involving his sister Suzette Quintanilla-Arriaga, saying the conflict stems from years of unresolved family issues and circumstances involving their late father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr.

A.B., who was Selena’s producer, bassist and one of the main songwriters behind her biggest hits, revealed the dispute publicly after reports began circulating about a multimillion-dollar battle within the Quintanilla family.

A.B. Says There Is “Evidence”

A.B. says the situation did not begin recently and that he remained silent for years out of loyalty to his family.

Reports have claimed he could be seeking as much as $48 million connected to his contributions to Selena’s music and legacy, but A.B. has not confirmed that figure and publicly available court documents have not established it.

There are also unverified reports that Suzette may be considering selling a stake connected to Selena’s estate or business interests.

Suzette and their mother Marcella have pushed back strongly.

They say Suzette has not been served with a lawsuit and deny allegations of financial wrongdoing or plans to improperly sell Selena’s property.

A.B. responded by maintaining that legal action is underway and says his attorney will provide additional information.

For now, exactly what is being sought — and how Selena’s enormously valuable music and legacy factor into the dispute — remains unclear.

But more than 30 years after Selena’s death, a very private Quintanilla family conflict has suddenly become very public.
