Colombia is sitting on top of the music world.

Karol G and Shakira have taken the top two positions on Spotify’s global chart, putting two Colombian women ahead of every other artist on one of the world’s biggest music streaming platforms.

Karol G currently holds the No. 1 position with “BbY WOW,” her collaboration with Spanish artists Judeline and rusowsky.

Right behind her is Shakira with “Dai Dai,” her collaboration with Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.

The achievement marks a historic moment for Colombian music, with Colombian artists occupying the top two positions on Spotify’s global ranking.

Karol G Remains No. 1

Karol G’s rise with “BbY WOW” has been remarkable.

The song climbed to No. 1 on Spotify Global in late August and has managed to remain there as its popularity continues to grow around the world.

According to Spotify chart tracking data for August 30, “BbY WOW” generated more than 3.8 million streams in a single day and had accumulated more than 47 million streams on the platform.

The achievement gave Karol G her second career No. 1 on Spotify Global after previously reaching the top with “TQG,” ironically alongside Shakira.

Now the two Colombian superstars find themselves competing for the same No. 1 position.

Shakira Is Right Behind Her

Shakira’s “Dai Dai” has quickly become another global hit for the Barranquilla-born superstar.

The collaboration with Burna Boy brings together two artists who have helped take music from their respective regions — Latin America and Africa — to enormous international audiences.

Its rise has now put Shakira directly behind Karol G on Spotify Global.

That means the two most-streamed songs at the top of the global ranking are being led by women from Colombia.

From Colombia to the World

The moment says something bigger about how dramatically Latin music’s position in the global industry has changed.

There was a time when Spanish-language artists breaking into international charts was treated as an exception.

Today, Colombian artists aren’t simply appearing on those charts.

They’re leading them.

Shakira helped open doors for Colombian and Latin artists internationally more than two decades ago, becoming one of the first Latin American stars of her generation to achieve enormous crossover success around the world.

Karol G represents the generation that followed, helping turn Spanish-language reggaeton and Latin music into part of the global mainstream without needing to abandon the language or culture behind it.

Now those two generations have met at the very top.

Shakira at No. 2.

For Colombia, that’s a pretty incredible moment in music history.
