Karol G has done something very few artists ever manage to pull off: she knocked herself out of the No. 1 spot on Billboard.
The Colombian superstar’s “BbY WOW,” featuring Spanish artists Judeline and rusowsky, has jumped from No. 5 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated August 29.
The song it replaced?
Karol G’s own collaboration with Drake, “Ahí,” which previously held the top position and has now moved to No. 4.
The achievement gives Karol G her 11th career No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart and makes her the first artist in nearly two years to replace their own song at the top.
“BbY WOW” Explodes on Streaming
The rise of “BbY WOW” has been driven heavily by streaming.
The collaboration generated 6.1 million official on-demand streams in the United States during the tracking week of August 14-20, according to Luminate.
That helped send the track from No. 5 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Streaming Songs chart as well.
“BbY WOW” has also made a huge move beyond the Latin rankings.
The song jumped from No. 73 to No. 38 on the overall Billboard Hot 100, making it Karol G’s highest-charting song on the Hot 100 in two years.
It also climbed into the Top 40 of the Billboard Global 200.
Karol G Knocks Her Drake Collaboration From No. 1
What makes the accomplishment particularly unusual is the song Karol G replaced.
“Ahí,” her collaboration with Toronto superstar Drake, had been sitting at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs.
Now another song from the same Karol G album has taken its place.
The last artist to replace themselves at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs was Bad Bunny in January 2025.
Karol G has actually accomplished the feat before.
In September 2023, her collaboration with Peso Pluma, “Qlona,” replaced her own “Mi Ex Tenía Razón” at No. 1.
Now she’s done it again.
First Billboard No. 1 for Judeline and rusowsky
The achievement is also a major career moment for Judeline and rusowsky.
“BbY WOW” gives both Spanish artists their first-ever Billboard No. 1.
The collaboration also climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Rhythm Songs chart.
Judeline told Billboard that it was difficult to believe a song they had recorded only a month earlier was already sitting at No. 1 in the United States.
The rapid success is another example of Karol G’s increasingly international collaborations as her music expands beyond traditional reggaeton and Latin pop.
Karol G Is Dominating Billboard
“BbY WOW” isn’t the only indication of how massive Karol G’s current run has become.
Her new album, No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto, has also reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.
At one point during the album’s rollout, 13 songs from the project appeared simultaneously on Hot Latin Songs.
The album includes collaborations with Drake, Bruno Mars, Judeline, rusowsky and Greg Gonzalez.
But there may be no statistic that captures Karol G’s current momentum better than what happened this week:
Karol G had the biggest Latin song in the United States — and the only artist powerful enough to knock her out of No. 1 was Karol G herself.
