Toronto is continuing its transformation into a full-on football city ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 — and this latest activation might be one of the coolest yet.
For the first time ever, Canada is getting a floating futsal pitch. Beginning June 11, Sport Chek will launch Sport Chek Harbourfront FC at Harbourfront Centre, bringing a nearly 130-foot floating soccer pitch directly onto Toronto’s waterfront.
Running until July 19, the free experience will feature soccer programming, retail pop-ups, fan activations, and immersive experiences designed to celebrate the World Cup and Canada’s rapidly growing soccer culture. Fans will even be able to book time slots online to actually play futsal on the floating pitch surrounded by views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline.
The floating field is only one part of Toronto’s massive World Cup buildup. Nearby, Adidas is also launching its Home of Soccer Toronto experience at Stackt Market, featuring giant outdoor watch parties, athlete appearances, soccer activations, and retail experiences throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, the city’s official FIFA Fan Festival at Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway is expected to draw massive crowds with concerts, cultural showcases, food vendors, and live match screenings during the 22-day celebration.
Toronto will officially host six World Cup matches at BMO Field this summer, including the first-ever men’s FIFA World Cup match played on Canadian soil on June 12 featuring Canada vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina.
As the countdown continues, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Toronto isn’t just hosting World Cup matches — the city is fully embracing the global football atmosphere in a way Canada has never seen before.
