A viral post from ESPN FC has left fans stunned after a resale ticket for a 2026 World Cup match was listed at an unbelievable $11 million.
The match in question—Portugal vs Colombia at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami—has all the ingredients of a blockbuster. With Cristiano Ronaldo potentially involved and a massive Colombian fanbase in Florida, demand is already through the roof.
But the $11 million price tag? Not real.
The listing appeared on FIFA’s official resale platform after the “Last-Minute Sales Phase” opened on April 1. While the ticket itself is legitimate, the price is widely believed to be either a technical glitch or a deliberate troll listing.
So how does something like this even happen?
For the 2026 World Cup, FIFA introduced a new ticketing system—one that includes dynamic pricing and, in the U.S., an uncapped resale market. That means sellers can list tickets at literally any price, with no ceiling. Combine that with fluctuating prices based on demand, and things can spiral quickly.
In fact, even official ticket prices are already pushing boundaries. Category 1 seats for high-demand matches have climbed to around $11,000—nearly 10 times higher than similar tickets in previous tournaments.
Add in reported technical issues, including server overloads and inconsistent listings, and it’s easy to see how extreme numbers like $11 million can appear.
No, no one is actually paying that.
But the bigger issue is clear: FIFA’s new system has blurred the line between real value and chaos. And as the World Cup approaches, moments like this are raising serious questions about accessibility, pricing, and the future of ticketing in global sport.
