Canada has a new track star on the rise.
Christopher Morales Williams delivered a breakout performance at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships, capturing gold in the men’s 400m with a championship record time of 44.76 seconds.
The Vaughan native powered past Khaleb McRae and Jareem Richards in a dramatic finish, showcasing his signature closing speed — something he says defines his racing style.
“I have worked hard for this… a gold and a championship record — I could not ask for more,” Morales Williams said after the race.
A Star in the Making
This wasn’t just a one-off performance. Morales Williams dominated the entire event:
- Fastest heat ever recorded at a World Indoor Championship
- Fastest semifinal in history
- And then a record-breaking final
He’s no stranger to speed either — in 2024, he ran the fastest indoor 400m time ever (44.49), though it wasn’t officially recognized due to technical issues.
Big Moment for Canada
His win adds to a strong showing for Canada, following Sarah Mitton’s silver medal in shot put.
With the outdoor season coming up, Morales Williams’ performance sends a clear message:
Canada has a serious contender on the global stage.
And if this race proved anything — it’s that when he’s chasing from behind, he’s at his most dangerous.
