Mexico City Turns the Zócalo Into the World’s Biggest Soccer Class

In a moment that felt like a preview of World Cup fever, Mexico City made history by hosting the largest football class ever recorded.

More than 9,500 people filled the iconic Zócalo for a 40-minute массов training session, smashing the previous Guinness World Record of just over 1,000 participants. From kids to seniors, the square turned into one massive pitch — full of energy, culture, and community.

Officials called it part of a broader “Social World Cup” movement, using football as a way to unite people ahead of the 2026 tournament. “Sport is a universal language,” said Mayor Clara Brugada, as the city officially celebrated the record.

The vibe? Pure Latin energy. Families in Mexico jerseys, live percussion bands, and spontaneous street games brought the square to life — a reminder that football here is more than a sport, it’s culture. Click here for video.

Still, the celebration came with a backdrop of national concerns around security. Despite that, optimism remains strong as Mexico prepares to co-host the World Cup, with the opening match set for June 11 at the legendary Estadio Azteca.

If this event proved anything, it’s that the passion is already here — and come June, it’s going to be on another level.

Toronto FC v Inter Miami CF – May 9, 2026

May 9 isn’t just a game — it’s a city moment, and we’re working directly with MLSE to bring the Toronto Latinos community together for Toronto FC vs Inter Miami at BMO Field — a chance to watch Messi and other World Cup-bound stars live, right here in our backyard weeks before the FIFA World Cup.

But we’re not just pulling up for 90 minutes. We’re starting with a pre-party at the stadium hours before the match, and finishing the night with an afterparty steps from the field. No moving your car. No breaking the vibe. Just one full-day experience. If you’re coming, come with us.
