A shipment of medicine and medical supplies from the United States arrived in Venezuela on Friday, signaling a shift toward renewed cooperation between the two countries following last month’s dramatic capture of former President Nicolás Maduro.
The six metric tons of medical aid were received at an airport outside Caracas by U.S. diplomat Laura Dogu and Venezuelan diplomat Félix Plasencia. Dogu described the delivery as the first of several planned donations aimed at helping stabilize Venezuela’s struggling health care system, which has been in crisis for years.
Venezuela’s public hospitals have faced severe shortages, often requiring patients to bring their own basic medical supplies. Plasencia called the shipment a sign of cooperation between two sovereign nations and said the effort reflects a shared commitment to improving conditions for the Venezuelan people.
The delivery marks an important moment in diplomatic relations, suggesting a possible reset between Washington and Caracas after years of tension.
