Dominican Republic Approves Temporary U.S. Military Aircraft Operations

The Dominican Republic has authorized several U.S. military aircraft to land and operate in the country over the coming days as part of a regional support mission in the Caribbean.

According to government officials, the aircraft will be operating under temporary permits from restricted areas at San Isidro Air Base and Las Américas International Airport. The mission falls under existing cooperation agreements between the Dominican Republic and the United States and will focus on surveillance, transport, logistics, and technical support.

Among the aircraft expected to be involved are the C-130 Hercules and the KC-130 tanker — two of the most reliable workhorses in the U.S. Air Force. The C-130 is best known for moving troops, equipment, and humanitarian aid, while the KC-130 also handles aerial refueling for aircraft, helicopters, and drones.

While officials haven’t shared exact flight schedules or how many planes will be involved, they confirmed the deployment could support maritime and aerial monitoring, regional security operations, and the transport of personnel and sensitive equipment.

Overall, the move highlights the ongoing security partnership between the Dominican Republic and the U.S., especially as both countries coordinate efforts to maintain stability and oversight across the Caribbean region.
