No Press Pass, No Problem: How a 15-Year-Old Covered the Copa Libertadores Final

When 15-year-old Cliver Huamán — known online as Pol Deportes — was denied media accreditation for the Copa Libertadores final because of his age, he didn’t let that stop him. Instead, he climbed a hill overlooking the Monumental de Lima and livestreamed the match from above, turning his determination into one of the most uplifting sports stories of the year.

Cliver traveled more than 18 hours from Huampica to Lima just to be near the action. Hours before the gates opened, he was already interviewing Flamengo and Palmeiras fans outside the stadium. When the match started, he set up his phone and tripod on the hillside and delivered a full play-by-play of Flamengo’s 1–0 victory — all from a bird’s-eye view.

His video quickly went viral, inspiring thousands with its message: passion can break barriers. What began as a workaround for an underage reporter became a symbol of persistence, creativity, and pure love for the game.

And he’s just getting started. Next on Cliver’s dream list? Covering the Peruvian playoffs between Alianza Lima and Sporting Cristal — this time, hopefully from inside the stadium.
