The rivalry may have been fierce on the field, but Toronto Blue Jays fans are showing that compassion transcends competition.

Following the Blue Jays’ dramatic Game 7 victory over the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship Series (ALCS), some Toronto fans decided to give back — not to their own city, but to Seattle’s Children’s Hospital.

It all started with a lighthearted post on the Toronto Blue Jays Reddit board, where one fan promised to make a donation if the Jays clinched the series. The message, which quickly went viral with over 1,400 upvotes, read:

“GOOD SERIES SEATTLE MARINERS. FROM A TORONTO BLUE JAYS FAN. SHOULD’VE USED MUNOZ INSTEAD OF [BAZARDO].”

Soon after, more fans began sharing screenshots of their donation receipts to Seattle Children’s Hospital, adding messages of respect and sportsmanship for the Mariners and their city.

Seattle Children’s Hospital confirmed to CTV News Toronto that they’ve received around 100 donations from Blue Jays fans since the ALCS ended.

“Every donation to Seattle Children’s fuels our mission and is truly appreciated,” said Sabrina Register, a spokesperson for the hospital. “Children’s is grateful to Blue Jays fans for their generosity. Moments like this highlight that we can all cheer for kids.”

In an inspiring show of mutual respect, Mariners fans responded by donating to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The hospital confirmed receiving a few heartfelt donations marked with baseball-related messages celebrating the series.

The Jays’ comeback win in Game 7 — their first trip to the World Series since the early 1990s — was a nail-biter that captivated fans across North America. But it’s this post-game act of generosity that’s reminding everyone why sports matter: the shared passion, the friendly rivalries, and the unity that follows.

As the Jays prepare to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 at Rogers Centre this Friday night, fans on both sides can take pride in knowing that kindness was the real winner of the ALCS.
