Drivers across Toronto and the GTA are about to get a welcome break. Starting just after midnight on Thursday, Sept. 18, gas prices will fall eight cents to 133.9 cents per litre — the lowest level since early August.
Roger McKnight, Chief Petroleum Analyst at En-Pro, says the drop marks one of the most significant single-day decreases in recent weeks. The last time prices hovered this low was briefly in early August, before climbing again amid market volatility.
The sharp decline comes as refiners make the annual switch from summer-grade gasoline to cheaper fall and winter blends, effective Sept. 16. Lower seasonal demand after the busy summer driving months is also playing a role.
For drivers, the timing couldn’t be better. While it’s unclear if this signals a sustained downward trend or just temporary relief, Thursday may be the best day in weeks to fill up.
