A Scarborough primary school is facing backlash after staff allegedly showed students a disturbing video depicting the assassination of U.S. conservative figure Charlie Kirk.

The incident reportedly took place this week in a Grade 5 and 6 French immersion class at Corvette Junior Public School. According to a letter sent to parents, the video was shown by a supervising staff member—not the regular homeroom teacher—after students asked questions about a recent tragic event in the United States.

Principal Jennifer Koptie acknowledged the seriousness of the situation in the letter, calling the incident “extremely troubling and completely unacceptable.” She confirmed that the staff member involved has been relieved of all teaching duties while an investigation is underway.

Koptie added that student well-being is the school’s “top priority,” noting that social workers have been made available to support students, and she personally plans to meet with the affected class.

The controversy stems from the Sept. 10 assassination of Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot at a college event in Utah. Two days later, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested in connection with the killing and remains in custody.

Kirk, a polarizing figure in U.S. politics and a close ally of Donald Trump, was known for his influence among young conservative voters and his provocative statements on race and gender. His murder is the latest in a series of high-profile political attacks in the U.S.

For now, Toronto District School Board officials say they are following all procedures as the investigation continues. Parents in the Scarborough school community remain shaken, with many questioning how such a graphic video could have been shown in a classroom of 10- and 11-year-olds.
