July 18, 2025

Starting July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin inviting 17,860 potential sponsors to apply for permanent residency for their parents and grandparents under the federal Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). The invitations will go to individuals who submitted an interest-to-sponsor form back in 2020.

IRCC aims to accept up to 10,000 complete applications during this intake period. Those selected can submit their applications online through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Portal.

If you submitted an interest form in 2020 but haven’t yet received an invitation, IRCC urges you to check your inbox—including spam or junk folders—as no new interest-to-sponsor forms will be accepted this year. Only those from the existing 2020 pool are eligible for 2025 invitations.

For those not selected, the super visa remains a viable option. This long-term, multi-entry visa allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to five years per visit and can be extended by two more years while still in Canada.

Despite overall reductions in Canada’s immigration targets, family reunification continues to be a priority—accounting for 22% of all permanent resident admissions, according to IRCC.
