Dodgers Respond to ICE Raids with $1M Pledge to Support Immigrant Families

As immigration raids rattle communities across Southern California, the Los Angeles Dodgers have stepped forward with a $1 million donation to assist families impacted by the crackdown. The reigning World Series champions announced their commitment alongside plans to partner with organizations like the California Community Foundation and the L.A. County Federation of Labor to provide ongoing aid.

The team’s announcement avoided direct political commentary, referring only to “recent events in the region,” but the intent was clear: to show solidarity with L.A.’s large immigrant population. “We have heard the calls for us to take a leading role,” said team president Stan Kasten. “We believe that by committing resources and taking action, we will continue to support and uplift the communities of Greater Los Angeles.”

The decision comes after federal agents were asked to leave Dodger Stadium grounds last Thursday, where they had gathered in a parking lot near Gate E—sparking protests and public scrutiny. Though Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the issue wasn’t widely discussed in the clubhouse, players like Puerto Rico native Kiké Hernández spoke out forcefully. “I cannot stand to see our community being violated, profiled, abused and ripped apart,” he wrote online.

Legendary Dodgers broadcaster Jaime Jarrín, himself an immigrant from Ecuador, added his voice: “Immigration is not just part of the American story; it is the American story,” he said.

Mayor Karen Bass praised the team’s actions, saying the raids have caused widespread fear and economic disruption. “We will not turn our backs on one another,” she declared.

The Dodgers’ move comes amid growing pressure from fans, local leaders, and lawmakers like Rep. Jimmy Gomez, who criticized the team’s initial silence. “Saying nothing is not just disappointing—it’s a betrayal,” he posted.

With nearly 40% of their fanbase identifying as Latino and deep roots in Los Angeles, the Dodgers’ response marks a significant moment of solidarity and leadership in a city shaken by immigration enforcement.
