Gas prices in the Greater Toronto Area dropped significantly overnight (April 1) as the federal consumer carbon tax is officially scrapped.
Industry analyst Dan McTeague estimates a decrease of approximately 20 cents per litre, bringing the average price down from around $1.57 to $1.37. The current carbon tax levy on gasoline—17.61 cents per litre—will no longer apply, impacting prices for gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, propane, and natural gas.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford welcomed the tax removal, calling it “the worst tax ever.” The federal government’s move is expected to lower fuel costs nationwide.
